Recently we considered a series of questions (see UNSOLVED MYSTERIES: QUESTION 3). We took the same question, and we phrased it four ways. That is, we came up with a version of the question “designed” by Conservative Republicans to challenge the assumptions of a Liberal Democrat, another “designed” by Liberal Democrats to challenge a Conservative Republican, and two more “designed” by “Moderates” to make certain that they are getting the best deal. Those last two questions challenged the assumption that being a “Moderate” necessarily means that we are somehow more wise and more noble because of our “moderation.”

Here I would like to throw up a question that challenges everyone’s assumptions.

Never underestimate politicians’ rapacious appetite for taxpayer (or “borrowed”) cash. It is insatiable so much so that many of them will flagrantly lie to get more. More cash means more money to spend to garner votes at election time and to pay-back political contributors. In a word, more taxpayer cash means more power for politicians.

Yet another example of this on a local level is occurring in New York City where the politicians are set to impose the nation’s first “congestion pricing” tolls next year on cars and trucks to enter the busy borough of Manhattan, from 60^th street (midtown) to the southern tip of the island.

You would figure that Democrats would have learned by now. It’s not a matter of whether or not a student loan forgiveness program would be a good thing. I think most people are in the camp that this isn’t good. We’re teaching our kids (and those that are now adults) that it’s okay to backout of a deal like a loan without any consequences. You don’t have to worry because Uncle Sam will come to your rescue.
