Blackouts For Christmas, A Sick Grid Gift

Many people got a blackout for Christmas. Or for Christmas Eve Day. Or even worse the Night Before Christmas, when it was zero at my place. But I was lucky as my 8 hour blackout was Friday, so all I lost for Christmas was phone and Internet. But I had already received the four day blackout the Thursday-Sunday a week before. Geez!

Oh but I also got an actual Christmas gift. An email from my power company (if you can still call them that) with this holiday request: “Please Conserve Energy During the Extreme Cold”.

How much I wondered? No Christmas dinner? No holiday lights? Apparently so, for this is (part of) what they said:

‘Controversial’ To Put Brakes On The Border?

When he reflected on his time as Treasury Secretary under Presidents Nixon and Ford, William Simon joked the media called him “controversial William Simon” so much he thought “controversial” sounded like his first name.

“Controversial” can certainly be an accurate adjective, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t wielded very deliberately to define what liberal journalists don’t like. On Monday, CNN morning anchor Christine Romans reported on Twitter under Elon Musk “reinstating controversial figures, including former President Trump.”  That’s true — Trump is controversial — and it sounds like CNN finds that Musk move objectionable.

Minutes later, Romans reported on President Biden demanding in recent months that the oil companies pump more oil. “He did the same of Saudi Arabia during a controversial visit in July.” Wow, Biden did something controversial – but put an asterisk on it, because journalists are especially angry over the Saudi crown…

This year brings an end to an era of illusions: a year that saw the end of the post–Cold War era and the return of geopolitics; the first energy crisis of the enforced energy transition to net zero; and the year that brought environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing down to earth with a thump—for the year to date, BlackRock’s ESG Screened S&P 500 ETF lost 22.2% of its value, and the S&P 500 Energy Sector Index rose 54.0%. The three are linked. By restricting investment in production of oil and gas by Western producers, ESG increases the market power of non-Western producers, thereby enabling Putin’s weaponization of energy supplies. Net zero—the holy grail of ESG—has turned out to be Russia’s most potent ally.

It is once again seeding the world with sick “tourists.”

As communist China struggles to contain a massive COVID outbreak, it is once again seeding the world with sick “tourists.” Half of the passengers on two recent flights from China to Milan, Italy, tested positive for COVID.

As a result of this shocking news, the Biden Administration announced Wednesday that it will require Chinese tourists to test for COVID two days before their flights to the United States. But this new testing requirement won’t take effect until January 5th!

When Donald Trump announced travel restrictions on passengers from China at the beginning of the pandemic, Biden denounced it as “hysterical xenophobia and fear-mongering.”

Biden’s hypocrisy is bad enough. But his week-long delay in implementing the new testing policy is malfeasance.

I don’t know many kids that get held back in schools anymore. Oh, I’m sure it happens. But it’s a lot rarer today than it was back in the olden days where we had to fight off dragons on the way to school.
